Bangladesh Journalist Death: The body of a 32-year-old female TV journalist was recovered from Hatirjheel in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka on Wednesday. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's US-based son Sajeeb Wazed described the journalist's death as another brutal attack on freedom of expression in the country.

The deceased has been identified as Sara Rahnuma. She was the newsroom editor of Bengali language satellite and cable TV channel Gazi TV. This is a channel of the Gazi Group. The news published in the Dhaka Tribune newspaper said that Sara Rahnuma's body was found floating in Dhaka's Hatirjheel.

Passersby saw a dead body floating in the lake

Bacchu Mia, the inspector-in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, confirmed that the woman journalist's body had been found. Pedestrians pulled out her body from the lake and took it to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared her dead at 2 am on Tuesday night.

Police engaged in investigation

Sara had earlier written in a post, 'It is better to die than live a life like death.' Inspector Bachchu Mia said that the body was kept in the DMCH morgue. Police said that an investigation will be conducted to find out the cause of Sara's death.

Sheikh Hasina's son raised questions

Sajeeb Wazed, son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said, 'Gazi TV's newsroom editor Sara Rahnuma was found dead. Her body was recovered from Hatirjheel in Dhaka city. This is another brutal attack on freedom of expression in Bangladesh. Gazi TV is a secular news channel owned by Ghulam Dastagir Gazi who was recently arrested.'

Sara wanted to divorce her husband

Bangladesh news channel Samay News quoted her husband Saeed Shuvro as saying that Sara had gone to work on the day of the incident, but did not return home at night. Shuvro received information at around 3 am that Sara had jumped into Hatirjheel. Shuvro said that Sara wanted to divorce him. The news channel said that the circumstances of Sara's death seem mysterious.
