As the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) grows rapidly, so do the risks associated with its misuse. Recent reports suggest that ChatGPT, specifically its latest model GPT-40, is being used to create fake Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, passports, and voter IDs. While the generation of these documents is currently limited to public figures, cybersecurity experts warn of a significant threat if unchecked.
User Reports Highlight AI Vulnerability
Several users on social media have shared instances where ChatGPT was prompted to create fake ID prototypes. One such example includes a user instructing ChatGPT to create an Aadhaar card for "Donald Trump" with an Indian address. The model responded with a fabricated card template, raising serious concerns about AI misuse.
Real Aadhaar Cannot Be Created with ChatGPT
It is important to note that an original Aadhaar card can only be issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). ChatGPT cannot access government databases or issue legitimate IDs. However, its ability to generate realistic-looking fake documents poses a risk, especially in the hands of cybercriminals.
Experts Warn Against Potential Cyber Fraud
Cybersecurity professionals emphasize the danger of fake ID creation through AI tools. Fraudsters often use counterfeit documents to gain trust and defraud individuals, and ChatGPT's capabilities could increase the scale and sophistication of such crimes.
If timely preventive measures are not implemented, this issue could escalate, leading to widespread cyber fraud and identity theft. Experts are calling for AI model restrictions, stricter usage guidelines, and regulatory oversight to prevent misuse.
