Roy and the Sanjay Roy were in charge of DTOA students and were on the run since August of 2024. Today all three emerged in court.

After the verdict was passed, father of the victim from RG Kar hospital stated "The faith I reposed in you, you've given due importance unto it." This was in November of last year and close to 162 days after the crime was committed on August 9 of the same year.

Doctor Sanjoy Roy, which had last assisted the junior doctor was reportedly detained by the Kolkata police, however since the doctor was laid to rest in an seminar which was located in a Hall of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Roy was dragged to assist the police at an interrogation which was held on the 10th of August. The Sealdah Court placed Roy at the location of the crime to his DNA taken from the deceased.
"I have examined all the evidence and witnesses, also heard the arguments. It was necessary for me to undergo all of these, in the end. Evidence of such nature is used against you in court. There is however a broader picture. You are guilty, additionally. You must accompany me in a box to the sanctioning authority. It becomes law," Roy said. The court will announce the quantum of punishment on Monday.
Roy was found guilty under Sections 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita that governs rape, and Sections 66 and 103 1 of the Act which deals with punishments for death and murder. Section 103 of BNS’s 1st clause entails that the person if found guilty shall be punished with the highest level significant punishment which may be death or life time imprisonment.
Sanjoy Roy meanwhile in the court stated, ’What has happened is dire and defamatory, Sanjoy Roy was unjustly put in a position of disaster without committing the purported crime.’
