In a groundbreaking initiative, an all-women police force will take charge of the security arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s event in Gujarat’s Navsari district on March 8, International Women’s Day. This historic move, announced by Gujarat State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, marks the first time in India’s history that only female officers will be responsible for the Prime Minister’s security.

A Historic First in India’s Security Operations

Minister Harsh Sanghavi emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, “For the first time ever, an all-women police team will be handling the security of the Prime Minister—from his arrival at the helipad in Vansi Borsi village to the event venue.”

This move aims to highlight the increasing role of women in law enforcement and their capability to manage high-security operations effectively.

Over 2,300 Women Police Officers Deployed

The security team will consist of more than 2,300 women personnel from various ranks within the Gujarat Police force. The deployment structure includes:

  • 2,100 women constables
  • 187 sub-inspectors
  • 61 police inspectors
  • 16 deputy superintendents of police (DSPs)
  • 5 superintendents of police (SPs)
  • 1 Inspector General of Police (IGP)
  • 1 Additional Director General of Police (ADGP)

Senior IPS officer and Home Secretary Nipuna Torawane will oversee the operation to ensure the smooth execution of this unprecedented security arrangement.

PM Modi’s Visit to Gujarat and ‘Lakhpati Didi Sammelan’

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled for a two-day tour of Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli on March 8 and 9. During his visit, he will attend the ‘Lakhpati Didi Sammelan’ in Vansi Borsi village, a program dedicated to empowering women by promoting financial independence and self-reliance.

A Symbolic Step on International Women’s Day

The all-women security initiative sends a powerful message on Women’s Day, showcasing the significant role women play in maintaining law and order. Minister Sanghavi reiterated that this move is not just a celebration but a testament to the growing presence of women in security and governance.

“This initiative demonstrates how women are actively contributing to making Gujarat a safe and secure state while inspiring others to take on leadership roles in security forces,” he said.
