Pakistan Air Strike in Afghanistan: Pakistan carried out air strikes on several Taliban hideouts in its neighboring country Afghanistan on Tuesday night. So far 46 people have been reported killed in this attack. The Taliban government said on Wednesday that 46 civilians were killed in Pakistan's air strikes in Afghanistan's eastern border region, while a Pakistani security official said that terrorist hideouts were targeted in the bombing.
Many innocent children and 27 women have also been killed in this attack. These attacks were the latest escalation in hostility along the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, tensions have increased since the Taliban seized power in 2021. It is believed that the death toll may increase further.
Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told AFP that Pakistan bombed four areas in Barmal district in eastern Paktika province late Tuesday night. He said, "The total number of dead is 46, most of whom were children and women." He said six more people were injured, most of them children.
Pak has not given any statement yet
Neither Pakistan's foreign ministry nor its military responded to requests for comment. But a senior Pakistani security official said the strikes were carried out on "terrorist hideouts" using jets and drones and killed at least 20 militants from the country's homegrown Taliban group, the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Speaking on condition of anonymity, he said, "The arguments of Afghan officials claiming that civilians were harmed are baseless and misleading." A Taliban Defense Ministry statement late Tuesday condemned the attacks and described them as barbaric. Using the name of Taliban officials for the government, the statement said, "The Islamic Emirate will not leave this cowardly act unanswered, but considers the defense of its territory and sovereignty as its indispensable right."
