HMPV Virus Live Update:  The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has detected two cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Karnataka. One case has been found in Gujarat. The Union Health Ministry gave this information on Monday. The ministry said that a three-month-old girl complained of 'bronchopneumonia' and was admitted to Baptist Hospital in Bengaluru, where she was found to be infected with HMPV. She has already been discharged from the hospital.

An eight-month-old infant suffering from 'bronchopneumonia' was admitted to Baptist Hospital on January 3, after which investigation revealed that he was infected with HMPV. The baby's health is now said to be improving. The ministry underlined that it is important to note that both the patients have no history of international travel.

The ministry emphasized that HMPV infection is already spreading in many countries including India and cases of respiratory diseases related to it have been reported in various countries. The ministry said that it is monitoring the situation through all available surveillance means and ICMR will monitor the trends of HMPV infection throughout the year.
