
Srinagar: Member of parliament Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has requested to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to help in the pathetic situation of a kashmiri engineer who is jail in Saudi Arabia for many years.
The matter pertains to Abdul Rafi Baba from the Soura area of Srinagar who has been incarcerated in the Saudi Arabian kingdom for over four years under some or the other unclear reasons.
Sharing the information through his social media handle, Mehdi’s office posted: “URGENT APPEAL: @ruhullahmehdi has written to the Hon’ble EAM@ DrSJaishankar about detention of a Kashmiri in Saudi Arabia. He promptly demanded for the intervention in order to hasten the liberty of the individual as well as his or her release to go home. Hope @MEAIndia is right on it to provide consulate to the citizens as soon as possible.”
On February 1, while ETV Bharat said that 36-year-old Baba was, as per his family, abducted from his workplace and arrested by Saudi police in 2020. Because Ahmed’s family received the news on March 1, 2020, the date is valid.
Since then his family that has been going door to door, moving from one office to another making all sorts of queries, running around in circles—just in order to get some news about him, to know whether he is alive, or not.
However, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, through a letter to the minister External Affairs minister, has sought his assistance for release of Baba.
JKSA chairman Nasir Khuehami said following this: “We have addressed the Union External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar Ji, to restrain regarding a Kashmiri engineer, Abdul Rafi Baba, who is in uncertain condition in Saudi Arabia jail.” “We have appealed to him to use all the diplomatic efforts to guarantee Baba’s release, get him a fair trial, and release him at the earliest,” he stated.
