Rahul's Comments Spark Controversy
While addressing the crowd at the inauguration of the Congress new headquarters cum office building in New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi observed that, “Don't think we are in a nice level playing field and this is fair and there is no fairness. If you think that we are just fighting against a political organization named the BJP or the RSS, you do not know what is going on. The BJP and the RSS have taken control of every one of our country's institutions. We are now confronted by the BJP, the RSS, and the Indian state.” He also addressed the new voters in Maharashtra that emerged between the Lok Sabha and the Vidhan Sabha that would amount to malpractice and election fraud.
Rahul said, “I did say that something is not right in the Maharashtra elections, it is no brainer to say that. We don’t like the way Election Commission functions.” Election Commission was accused of concealing relevant materials like the voters list which is necessary in ensuring integrity. "Why would the Election Commission want to keep the voters’ list not transparent? What is the benefit of holding back this information? It is their sacred responsibility to explain why this has happened,” Rahul remarked.
Rahul Characterizes Bhagwat's Comments Regarding Independence As Treasonous
Rahul has mostly blasted Mohan Bhagwat, the head of the RSS, who said, a few days ago, that “real freedom came to India with the construction of the Ram temple. Rahul took Bhagwat’s claim regarding Ram Temple as independence as ‘treason' describing it as a disgrace to the struggle for the independence of the country. "Mohan Bhagwat’s assertion about India not gaining independence in 1947 disrespects all Indians. Saying this in public is treasonous since it implies there was no constitution and no anti colonial struggle against the British,” said Rahul.
He went on to add, “Do not deceive yourselves that the Congress Party has merely collaborated alongside the people of India, in order to foster economic growth and bring ‘prosperity’ to the country, Wei were building the country and the foundation was the Constitution. No stronger message can be sent than for us to never tolerate this idiocy anymore and also to commence enforcing responsibility for what these people speak.”
