After the coronavirus, now a new virus is ready to wreak havoc all over the world. Marburg or bleeding eye is wreaking havoc in Rwanda, Africa, which is very dangerous. A large number of people are being affected by this. So far, about 15 people have lost their lives due to this. Marburg virus, also known as bleeding eye virus, is a hemorrhagic fever that can be fatal. It belongs to the family of Ebola virus and is spreading in Rwanda.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the case fatality rate is up to 88%, with patients dying within eight to nine days if symptoms are severe, but if detected early, treatment is possible.

What is Ba leeding Eye Virus?

The scientific name of Bleeding Eye Virus is Hemorrhagic Conjunctivitis. This is a type of viral infection that can cause symptoms like bleeding in the eyes. During this problem, blood clots start forming in the white part of the eyes. This virus spreads rapidly.

Although this virus is a rare but deadly type of virus, it can cause hemorrhagic fever and damage blood vessels. This can lead to the risk of internal bleeding.

  • How it spreads-

According to doctors, this virus is zoonotic, which means that it spreads from animals to humans. It mainly originates from bats and spreads to humans through contact with their saliva, blood, and urine.

According to WHO, the symptoms of this fever start appearing within 2 to 21 days-

  • Burning and itching in the eyes
  • Redness or blood clots in the white part of the eyes
  • mild fever
  • Muscle pain
  • Diarrhea
  • severe headache
  • Stomach ache
  • cramps
  • Non-itchy rash in some cases
  • Bleeding from nose, gums
  • blurred vision

How to avoid it-

The worrying thing is that at present there is no vaccine available for this. However, it can be avoided in some ways-

  • Its outbreak is being seen in African countries, so avoid traveling there
  • Avoid coming in contact with an infected person
  • Consult a doctor immediately if you notice any flu symptoms
