New Delhi: With the US increasing immigration restriction laws relentlessly, the American embassy said on Tuesday while some illegal migrants are reported to be ferried to India by a US military aircraft. The first round of deportation of the Indians who are said to be in the US illegally is barely two weeks after Donald Trump assumed senior presidency in the US.
Trump has submitted a list of drastic measures toward immigrants dwelling in the United States, and already signed some of them as orders. When asked about the deportation flight which was carrying a group of Illegally stayed migrants to India, a statement from an US embassy representative does not enumerate specifics of the deportation but emphasize ‘ the US is deporting aliens in its territory illegally.
“As for those inquires, I can’t comment, but may speak on the record: the United States remains intent on enforcing the borders, immigration laws: The removal of the illegals,” an official stated. The main speaker said that: “These actions give a clear message to the public: Illegitimate migration is not worth to be tried.”
In the phone call with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 27 January, Trump merely stated India would do “what is right” on deportation of immigrants from the US.
Earlier this month, the Ministry of External Affairs noted that it is against the illegle immigration and ready to accept the Indians staying unlawfully in the US if their Indian nationality can be proved.
India has an issue with the concept of illegal immigration because it is linked to several types of criminal activities, as stated by the MEA’s Randhir Jaiswal on January 24.
But he added that they would take them back on the condition that papers that would show their nationality, that are Indians, would be produced. At the same time, Jaiswal commented that we cannot speak of the number of Indians who are in the ‘illegal’ population in the United States of America.
The EAM concerns was to deport at least 18,000 Indian migrants refusing to validate their status as the legal residents. This news published by Bloomberg indicates that of the 18,000 Indians alleged to have been living in the US illegally, majority come from Punjab and Gujarat. This number can be even higher as a report, which was published in 2023 by US Department of Homeland Security shows that in as of the year 2022, there were a total of 2, 20, 000 unauthorized immigrants from India in the States.
