Umar Khalid 7 Days Interim Bail: A Delhi Court on Wednesday (December 18) granted seven-day interim bail to former JNU student Umar Khalid to attend his cousin's wedding and meet his relatives in the Northeast Delhi riots larger conspiracy case.
In his interim bail plea, Khalid had said that his cousin's wedding was taking place on January 1 at Masjid Ishaat Islam in Abul Fazal Enclave, New Delhi, followed by a Nikaah and dinner at Kalindi Kunj. He had further said that the Haldi and Mehendi ceremonies would be held on December 30 and 31.

Khalid said that he wanted to meet his relatives, especially his sister, who is coming from America. Khalid also said that he did not want to attend the reception in Nagpur and would stay in Delhi. Additional Sessions Justice Sameer Bajpai of Shahdara District Court granted relief and allowed Khalid to stay out of jail from the morning of 28 December to the evening of 3 January 2025 on a personal bond of Rs 20,000.
As per his bail conditions, Khalid should meet only his family members, relatives and friends. He should stay at his home or at the places where the wedding ceremony will take place as mentioned by him and not use social media. Khalid, along with others, is facing charges of premeditated conspiracy to allegedly incite riots in north-east Delhi between February 23, 2020 and February 25, 2020. He has been booked for offences under the Indian Penal Code, Prevention of Damage.
