UP By-election: Samajwadi Party President and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav strongly criticized the BJP government over the safety of women in the state. He said that women and girls are feeling most insecure and humiliated during the tenure of the BJP government. Akhilesh says that women empowerment has remained only a slogan and the claims of the BJP government are proving to be false. In a statement issued by the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav said that the BJP government has no plan for the empowerment and safety of women.
SP's participation in all nine seats in the by-election
Samajwadi Party is contesting on all the nine assembly seats in the by-elections to be held on November 20 in Uttar Pradesh. On the other hand, BJP has fielded its candidates on eight seats and its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) is contesting on one seat. Akhilesh believes that BJP's schemes on women's rights and security are mere shams, which is misleading the public.
Schemes for women and children in the SP government
Akhilesh Yadav also mentioned the schemes run for women and children during the reign of the Samajwadi Party. He said that in his government, free laptops were distributed to more than 18 lakh students and textbooks, uniforms were provided to children from class 1 to 8, and free education was provided to girls up to intermediate. Apart from this, nutritious food was arranged for women and children under the Matri Shishu Janani Suraksha Yojana, and 55 lakh women got the benefit of the Samajwadi pension.
Special services for women's safety in the SP government
Akhilesh said that services like 1090 Women Power Line were started for the safety of women in the Samajwadi government, so that women can get immediate help. Apart from this, 108 ambulance seservicesor the injured in road accidents and UP Dial 100 for immediate police assistance were also started. He alleged that the BJP has changed UP Dial 100 to 112 and involved it in corruption, which has weakened the security system.
