Washington: Trump provides an outrageous plan to annex the Gaza strip and transfer palestinians to other countries, against their wish and develop the strip into ‘the Mediterranean pearl of the Middle East’.
Trump revealed the idea which caused gasps during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who arrived at the White House for a meeting.
In a plan that specified how he would transfer over 2 m Palestinians or manage Gaza, Trump stated he would transform the war-torn Gaza strip into the unbelievable place by providing it with the most essential commodity which was bombs replaced by the construction materials to rebuild the bombed areas in addition to, the economic regeneration of the region.
The United States will seize the Gaza Strip and we will also do a job with it as well. We'll own it," Trump said. He said that there is support for the plan from the ‘highest leadership’ in the Middle East and pressed Egypt and Jordan to accept displaced Gazans — and both Egypt, Jordan and the Palestinians flatly rejected the surprise proposal.
Proposing that the US “take ownership” of the Gaza strip, Trump said he will turn the land into the “Riviera of the Middle East. These could be something that could be so magnificent.
An important ally of the United States, Netanyahu stated that the Trump’s plan had the potential to become a “game-changer” plan that should be taken seriously. Netanyahu was visiting the White House and the first time that a foreign leader met with him, after Trump returned to power, for discussing the possibility of a second phase of the truce between Israel and Hamas which is a Palestinian militant group after an initial agreement of six weeks of ceasefire.
'Miserable existence'
But it soon turned out to be a revelation of a plan that would fundamentally alter the map of the Middle East. Trump, who also mentioned that he thought of visiting Gaza, raised the signal that it would not be rebuilt for the Palestinians.
“It should not go through process of rebuilding and occupation by the same people that have…lived there and died there and lived a miserable existence there,” he said.
The Palestinian envoy to the United Nations has vehemently rejected the ideas that Trump offered early on Tuesday and that the Palestinian people should be relocated saying that the United States should take the territory over.
“Our homeland is our homeland,” spokesman for Palestine Riyad Mansour stated. And I think leaders and people should realize the desire of the Palestinian people.”
Some of the Gazans have also opposed the idea of the president of the United States to resettle them. “Trump is just an ass, he does not know anything, he considers Gaza as garbage — it is absolutely untrue,” stated a 34 years old man named Hatem Azzam from Rafah.
Trump was not very specific concerning the specifics of his actions in regard to the takeover plan, but it was obvious that it could extent as far as sheer sending the american troops to one of the most dangerous regions in the world, if necessary.
This is not the first time the ex real estate billionaire has described the Palestinian territory in such a way, in October he stated that it could be ‘better than” Monaco.
Speaking to Trump in a press conference held on 15 February 2020, Netanyahu described Trump as the greatest friend of Israel and applauded his creativity.
The two have had an acrimonious relationship in the past but Netanyahu has warmed up once again to the Republican now that he has regained power after Biden’s relationship with the former president became frosty over the rising deaths in Gaza since Israel’s invasion.
'Winning the war'
The Israeli leader did not reject the idea of his country to continue the fight against Hamas or other hostile parties such as Hezbollah or Iran. ‘We will win the war,’ Netanyahu stressed, and added that he will do everything to bring back all the hostages whom Hamas has taken.
He did express surety with regard to his forecast these P752 were going to get a deal to normalize relations with regional rival; Saudi Arabia. However, after Trump uttered his plan, Saudi Arabia stated it will not recognize Israel until the Palestinians, have their own country.
It is however paramount to note that Trump’s grand Gaza plan is likely to be opposed by the Palestinians and Middle Eastern countries. Egypt, Jordan and ceasefire intermediary Qatar have all dismissed Trump’s idea of relocating the Palestinians out of Gaza strip.
The war started when Hamas carried out an attack on Israel on 7th October 2023 and seized 251 hostages in Gaza, and 76 of them are detained to date in the Palestinian territory besides 34 of whom the Israeli defense force avouch are deceased.
Hamas’s attack led to the deaths of 1,210 people on the Israeli side, many of the non-combatants as is evident from an estimate obtained from official Israeli records by the AFP.
Gaza’s heath ministry said that majority of the dead, at least 47,518 are civilians killed by Israel’s retaliatory measures. The UN regards them as accurate figures.
Since ceasefire came into force on January 18, humanitarian organizations and individuals were able to provide food, fuels and other necessities to Gaza and people who fled the war returned back to the northern areas of Palestinian territory.
However, soon after the ceasefire in Gaza, Israel has deployed a deadly raid on the Hezbollah militants in the north of the West Bank.
