Durga Puja 2024: Bangladesh will not export the valuable silver fish Hilsa to India during this year's Durga Puja. Let us tell you that for the past several years, Bangladesh has exported several tonnes of Hilsa fish to India on the occasion of Durga Puja. Last year in 2023, on the occasion of Durga Puja, Bangladesh exported about 2,500 tonnes of fish to India. Most of the fish were purchased in the markets of Kolkata.

Farida Akhtar, an advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock of Bangladesh's interim government, said that Hilsa will not be exported to India during this year's Durga Puja. The advisor said this while exchanging greetings with the executive committee members of the Fisheries and Livestock Journalists Forum, an organization of fisheries and livestock journalists, at her office at the Secretariat in Dhaka.

Hilsa gifts were sent to India from Bangladesh

Every year during Durga Puja, gifts of Hilsa were sent to India from Bangladesh. However, this time no Hilsa will go to India, said Farida Akhtar, an advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. "After meeting the needs of the people of Bangladesh, Hilsa fish will be exported abroad," she said. "People of Bangladesh will not get Hilsa and it will not be exported. As a result, I have asked the Ministry of Commerce to ensure that no Hilsa goes to India during Durga Puja. I have recommended the Home Ministry to be strict in the Indo-Bangladesh border area so that no Hilsa can go through illegal routes." Apart from this, the advisor has also promised to bring down the price of Hilsa fish, which is beyond the reach of low-income people, within reach.
