Indore News: In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, the cleanest city in the country, both begging and giving alms have now become a crime. The administration has put a legal ban on it. The administration, which is trying to free Indore from begging, will now take action against those giving alms and buying any goods from beggars. Provision has also been made for action on violation of this ban. News agency PTI gave this information quoting officials. Officials said that District Magistrate Ashish Singh said in an order issued under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code 2023, ‘Any kind of begging is completely banned. Giving anything as alms to monks or buying any kind of goods from them is prohibited.’

One year imprisonment or fine of Rs 5,000

The order said that if any person is found giving anything to beggars as alms or buying anything from them, then legal action will be taken against him for violating this order. An FIR will be registered under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code for violating the order. Under this legal provision, the guilty can be punished with imprisonment up to one year or fine up to Rs 5,000 or both.

A reward of Rs 100 has also been announced

According to officials, the administration's prohibitory order also announces a reward of Rs 1,000 as incentive to the person who gives correct information about begging. Dinesh Mishra, project officer of the Women and Child Development Department, said that during the last four months in the city, about 400 people involved in begging have been sent to a shelter for rehabilitation, while 64 children have been sent to a child care institution.

pilot project started

He said, 'During the last four months, we have run different campaigns to make people aware against begging. Now legal action will be taken against both the people who take alms and those who give alms.' The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has started a pilot project to make 10 cities of the country beggar-free, which includes Indore.
