Many of us often face the problem of constipation. Constipation, that is, not having a clear stomach or difficulty in passing stool, is a common problem. There can be many reasons for this, but not doing exercise is an important reason. Let us know the connection between these two from Dr. Vishal Khurana (Director – Gastroenterology, Metro Hospital Faridabad).
- Effect of exercise on the digestive system-
Dr. Vishal Khurana told that the digestive system of our body depends on movement to function properly. When we do physical activity, the muscles of the body remain active. This increases the blood flow in the intestine and the intestine is able to digest food better. If we do not exercise, the body's metabolism slows down and the intestines can become sluggish. This can cause problems in bowel movement.
- Reason -
Sitting: Sitting all day or moving less has a negative impact on the digestive system.
Lack of water: Exercise causes sweating, which increases the habit of drinking water, but if you do not exercise, the amount of water may decrease, which can lead to constipation.
Bad diet: Junk food and food lacking in fiber also causes constipation. Exercise increases appetite and leads to the habit of eating healthy food.
How does exercise help?
- Strengthens muscles: Exercising keeps the stomach muscles active, which helps in digestion.
- Reduces stress: Stress can also be a cause of constipation. Exercise improves mood and reduces stress.
- Blood circulation increases: Exercise keeps blood flow proper throughout the body, which speeds up the digestion process.
- Walk for 30 minutes every day.
- Include yoga or stretching exercises in your daily routine.
- Drink as much water as possible and eat fiber rich diet.
- Exercise is not only important for weight loss but also to keep the digestive system healthy.
If you want to avoid constipation, make physical activities a part of your daily routine. A little walking is very important for a healthy body.
