Ranchi: A wedding in Jharkhand was cancelled. The groom fainted due to cold while the rituals were going on in the mandap at night, after which the bride left the mandap. Despite much persuasion, the bride did not agree and the wedding had to be cancelled. This incident happened on Sunday. Arnab, a youth from Ghormara of Devghar in Jharkhand, was to get married to Ankita from Bhagalpur in Bihar.

The bride had brought the procession

According to the Times of India, this wedding in Deoghar, Jharkhand took an unexpected turn when the groom fainted due to cold during the wedding rituals. The wedding was supposed to take place in the groom's hometown, but took place amid some unusual circumstances. Traditionally, the groom's family brings the baraat, but in this case, Ankita's family brought the baraat to Arnab's house. Ankita had already expressed her concern about this reversal of tradition.

The groom fainted during the ceremony

The wedding began with all the rituals. The Var Mala ceremony (exchange of flower garlands) was performed outside in the cold weather. The families along with the bride and groom enjoyed dinner and prepared for the pheras, which is the most important ritual in a Hindu wedding. However, as soon as the priest started chanting the wedding mantras, the groom started shivering and eventually fainted, and fell in the open mandap.

The groom's family immediately rushed him to a nearby room where they tried to revive him by rubbing his palms and soles. A doctor was called and after more than an hour and a half, Arnaav regained consciousness.

The bride said she will not marry

Ankita expressed her concern about Arnaav's health, fearing that he might have some disease that caused him to faint in the cold. She also questioned why her family had to take the baraat to the groom's house, which further increased the tension between the two families. Ankita refused to marry.
