In the video, Syrian rebel fighters can be seen celebrating around the burning grave of the late Syrian President Hafez al-Assad in Qardaha, the hometown of the Assad family. Rebels say they are eradicating remnants of the Assad family's bloody rule. Videos widely shared on Syrian media channels show fighters and civilians stepping on coffins.

50 years of rule and genocide
Hafez al-Assad first seized power in 1971 through a coup. His family ruled Syria for the next 54 years. He died in 2000. After that, his third son Bashar al-Assad took charge of Syria.
The most horrific atrocity of Hafiz's brutal rule was the Hama massacre in 1982. His troops laid siege to the city to suppress the rebellion and killed 40,000 civilians. Bombing, tank attacks, howitzer bombing and chemical weapons were used on the people. After this, the troops stormed the city and brutally killed innocent people. This barbaric massacre lasted for three weeks. It is considered one of the deadliest violence ever in the modern Middle East.
