Russia-Ukraine War : Saudi Arabia facilitated the first direct meeting between the United States and Russia aimed at finding a path to end the ongoing war in Ukraine. The discussions focused on establishing a framework for cooperation between the two nations to bring the conflict to an end. According to the Associated Press (AP), US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that officials from both sides agreed to form a high-level task force to advance peace efforts and explore economic cooperation in Ukraine.

The meeting, held in Saudi Arabia, lasted four hours. While it was anticipated that this dialogue could pave the way for bilateral talks between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, no final agreement was reached regarding a potential summit. Yuri Ushakov, foreign affairs advisor to President Putin, stated that both delegations recognized the need for collaboration but emphasized that setting a concrete date for a meeting between the two leaders remains challenging.

Key Agreements Between the US and Russia

In an interview with AP following the meeting, Secretary Rubio highlighted three key areas of consensus:

Restoration of Embassy Staff – Both nations agreed on the need to restore diplomatic personnel in their embassies in Washington and Moscow. Over the years, the mass expulsion of diplomats has severely strained US-Russia relations.

Formation of a High-Level Team – Officials from both sides will form a dedicated team to support negotiations focused on achieving peace in Ukraine.

Exploration of Economic Cooperation – Discussions will continue regarding potential avenues for closer economic ties, despite the extensive US and European sanctions imposed on Russia.

"Only Donald Trump Can End the War" – Tammy Bruce

Commenting on the outcome of the meeting, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce reiterated Washington’s commitment to ending the bloodshed and leveraging its global influence to unite nations. She asserted that President Donald Trump is uniquely positioned to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine, emphasizing his ability to bring both sides to the negotiating table.

While no immediate breakthroughs were announced, this Saudi-mediated dialogue marks a significant step toward potential diplomatic solutions to the ongoing conflict.
