Hijab was worn to hide injuries
Sara's father admitted during the trial to strangling her with his hands and beating her with a cricket bat and other objects. During the trial, it was also revealed that Sara's father made her wear a hijab not for religious reasons but to hide the wounds on her body. The girl's injuries were noticed at school, so her father also expelled her from school. Sara's mother Olga Sharif has called her daughter's killers "cowards, cruel and executioners".
