The country is going through a period of severe cold. The Meteorological Department on Saturday predicted cold wave and heavy snowfall in places above 2,500 meters in the hilly districts of Uttarakhand. In view of the warning issued by the Meteorological Department, a holiday has been declared in all government, non-government schools and Anganwadi centers in Chamoli district. Various districts including Dehradun in the hill state remained cloudy on Friday, due to which the cold increased. Heavy snowfall and cold wave have also been predicted in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Pauri, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Almora, Champawat, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts of the state.

 

Rain in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana

The national capital recorded the highest rainfall in December in 15 years and the day temperature dropped sharply to 14.6 degrees Celsius. Many places in Punjab and Haryana also received rain, leading to a sharp drop in day temperatures in both places. The maximum temperature in hailstorm-hit Chandigarh fell to 15.9 degrees Celsius.

The plains of Srinagar, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama districts received the first snowfall of this season. Due to snowfall, Srinagar-Leh Highway and Mughal Road had to be closed. The minimum temperature in Kashmir remained several degrees below the freezing point, due to low temperature, water in water supply pipes froze and a thin layer of ice formed on the surface of many water bodies including Dal Lake.

 

Light to moderate rain with thunder in Rajasthan

Most parts of Rajasthan are experiencing severe cold and due to the effect of western disturbance, light to moderate rain occurred at many places on Friday. According to the Meteorological Department, in the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain with thundershowers occurred at many places in the state. During this time, Sikar, Ajmer, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur, Churu and Hanumangarh districts received rain. According to the Meteorological Center Jaipur, due to the effect of a new western disturbance, light to moderate rain with thundershowers and hailstorm at some places is expected in Kota, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bharatpur, Udaipur division and some parts of Shekhawati division.

Clouds will remain in Delhi

Delhi-NCR received rain on Friday and the national capital recorded the highest rainfall in December in the last 15 years and the temperature dropped sharply to 14.6 degrees Celsius. The weather department said that the sky will be cloudy on Saturday and there may be intermittent rain. Apart from this, light rain is expected from morning to afternoon, after which the sky will remain cloudy during the day.
