Who is Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani?
Born in 1980 into Qatar’s ruling family, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is the son of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. He pursued his education in the United Kingdom, attending Harrow School before enrolling at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Graduating in 1998, he returned to Qatar the same year and joined the military as a second lieutenant.
In 2003, Sheikh Tamim was officially named as the heir to the throne. Shortly after, he was appointed Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, taking on increasing responsibilities for the nation’s security. Over time, he established himself as a key figure in the region, known for both his leadership and affluent lifestyle.
Sheikh Tamim is ranked among the world’s wealthiest monarchs. Reports suggest that the Al Thani family’s total fortune stands at approximately $335 billion, while Sheikh Tamim’s personal wealth is estimated to be $2.4 billion.

The ruling Al Thani family resides in a lavish royal palace in Doha, adorned with gold and featuring over 100 rooms, with parking space for 500 cars. The Emir also owns a private airline, Qatar Amiri, which exclusively serves members of the royal family. According to aviation experts, the airline boasts a fleet of 14 aircraft, including three Boeing 747-8 jets.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s visit marks his second official trip to India, the first being in 2015. This time, he is accompanied by a high-profile delegation consisting of senior ministers, officials, and business leaders.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Qatari leader will be accorded a grand ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 18. He is also scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu and engage in bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The talks are expected to focus on strengthening economic ties, energy cooperation, trade expansion, and strategic partnerships across various sectors.
