Kazakhstan crash cause latest news: Azerbaijan Airlines has confirmed that the cause of the plane crash in Kazakhstan was "external physical and technical interference". The Embraer 190 aircraft, flying from Baku to Grozny on December 25, failed to land in Grozny due to heavy fog and was diverted to the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan, located near the Caspian Sea. 38 people died in the crash, while 29 people survived.

Russian missile suspected

The next day, reports emerged that a Russian surface-to-air missile had damaged the plane, causing it to crash into open ground off the Caspian Sea. However, the Kremlin has denied the allegation and said it was “accidentally fired”. Azerbaijan Airlines and other authorities have confirmed an investigation into the incident.

Unusual behavior of the plane

A passenger on the plane told Reuters that a loud explosion was heard in the plane and then the behavior of the plane became abnormal. The passenger felt it "swaying inexplicably" and started praying for the last moments. Flight Radar24 reported that the plane was jammed with GPS signals for an hour, causing sudden fluctuations in the plane's altitude.

Russia's response

Russia has launched an investigation into the matter and according to some reports, its anti-aircraft missiles shot down the plane by mistake. However, Russian officials said that the pilot was offered several alternative airports, but he chose Aktau Airport in Kazakhstan. The accident reminded of Malaysian Airlines MH17 in 2014, which was shot down by Russian-backed forces.
