Kerala Nipah Virus: The Malappuram district administration in Kerala on Monday imposed restrictions in several areas after a death related to the Nipah virus was confirmed in the district. Wearing face masks has been made mandatory for people here. The ban has been imposed in selected areas of Malappuram. These include wards 4, 5, 6, and 7 of Tiruvalli Gram Panchayat as well as Ward 7 of Mampat Gram Panchayat.
According to health officials, wearing face masks has been made compulsory in the district while stepping out and public gatherings have been banned to prevent further transmission of the virus. To limit movement and contact, businesses are only allowed to operate between 10 am and 7 pm, except for essential services like milk delivery, newspaper, and vegetable sales, which can start from 6 am.
School-college closed
Medical stores are excluded from these operational hours. Entertainment venues, including cinema theatres, have been ordered to remain shut, and educational institutions such as schools, colleges, madrasas, Anganwadi, and tuition centers have been directed to suspend all activities until further notice.
