Milkipur: According to the Election Commission of India, Mithilapuri Vidhan Sabha by poll elections have been conducted and as per the results exchanged on the countings’ 12th session held on Saturday, BJP’s Chandra Banu Paswan is winning over with a 34,500 vote lead over Ajit Prasad of Samajwadi Party.
While Ajit, who is the son of SP's Faizabad MP, Pradeep Awadh did manage to gather over 19,600 votes, Chandra Banu was able to earn above 41,900 votes against him.
In Ayodhya, counting was regulated at 8 am in GIC Inter College over stringent measures with respect to security. This need for these elections came about since SP’s Awdhesh Prasad, who had gone to win the Milkipur seat during December 2022 Assembly elections also won the Faizabad (Ayodhya) Lok Sabha seat in 2024.
Besides Ajit from Samajwadi Party, other electors Bharatiya Janata Party had also nominated Chandra Banu Paswan, and other, totaling at 10 in number to fill in the reserved SC seat which saw a voting percentage of around 57.13. It was confirmed that the counting is being performed in 14 different sectors on 30 tables with 76 employees managing.
In the midst of increasing conflict, SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the BJP indulged in “paid voting”, stating that BJP workers were brought in from Amethi, Sultanpur and Ambedkar Nagar for fake voting. He also attacked the Election Commission, saying that they did nothing.
Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak, however, has rejected the accusations saying that, “It is a known fact that SP claims falsehoods when they suffer losses. The people of the state know the truth, and BJP will win in Milkipur."
Security at the counting centre has been fortified with paramilitary forces working round the clock. Ayodhya’s DM Chandra Vijay Singh and SSP Rajkaran Nayyar are also overseeing the proceedings quite keenly.
The results are receiving close scrutiny from supporters from both parties as the supporters believe that their side will win. The results are expected to come out later today.
Over 1.93 lakh male voters, over 1.78 lakh female voters and eight members of the third gender voted in the November 5 bypoll. The record also indicates 4,811 first-time voters in the assembly. We know BSP will not contest the byelection but have also seen Congress supporting, at least so far, its ally SP in the constituency. Having said that, Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) have also put up a candidate from this constituency.
