The central government will build a memorial
The central government will build a memorial for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi. The Union Home Ministry has said that the government will allocate space for this. Late Manmohan Singh's family and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge have been informed in this regard. Late night on Friday, 27 December, the Union Home Ministry issued a press release giving this information. Immediately after the cabinet meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed Kharge and Manmohan Singh's family that the government will allocate space for the memorial.
Mallikarjun Kharge wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Earlier, Congress party's national president Mallikarjun Kharge had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a memorial to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on the banks of the Yamuna river in Delhi. Kharge wrote in the letter that considering the contribution and stature of Dr. Manmohan Singh, a place should be allotted for his last rites where a permanent memorial in his name can be built.
However, Congress President Kharge had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging that former Prime Minister Singh's last rites be performed at a place where a memorial can be built for him. Congress has alleged that the government's inability to find a place for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's funeral and memorial is a deliberate insult to India's first Sikh Prime Minister.
