Imphal: The issue of who will be the next Chief Minister remains unresolved in Manipur even as there is furious political activity in the northeastern state.
BJP’s in charge of Manipur Sombit Patra, who has been stationed in the state, met yesterday with other important BJP party members like the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Th. Satyabrata Singh and MLAs Th. Radheshyam Singh, Y Khemchand Singh, Th. Biswajit Singh, Th. Basanta Kumar Singh, etc.
While the political party has not made any pronouncement publicly until this time, it will certainly seek someone who is more tolerable to the different tribes in the state. The Meiteis, Kukis, Nagas, and Hmars etc.
“Discussions are progress of how normalcy can be restored in Manipur. The decision regarding a new leader whould should be makes by the party’s top brass. I only came in to help discuss how peace can be achieved,” Y Khemchand said while speaking to the press after meeting Patra. To the question of CM’s resignation he stated that they are on board with whatever decision has been made by the high command.
“The problem we are grappling with at the moment is how to restore the order, normal situation. The terms of reconciliation for these two ethnic groups of people should not take too long,” the senior BJP leader said.
At the same time, security in and around Imphal and other adjoining areas has been strengthened with the deployment of Assam Rifles and state police forces because of the political activities happening within the state. Manipur has started to experience political instability and uncertainty since Sunday evening after Chief Minister N Biren Singh decided to step down from his position.
