Madhya Pradesh News: Amidst the nationwide outrage over the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College, two horrific incidents of brutality have come to light from Madhya Pradesh. The first case is from the country's cleanest city Indore, while the second incident is from Rewa. A couple was attacked at a picnic spot near a temple in Rewa. After this, the brutes tied the husband to a tree and gang-raped his wife. The rapists made a video of the incident and threatened to make it viral if a complaint was made to the police. The incident is on October 21. The police registered a case the next day and arrested some suspects.
Rape in Indore too
Meanwhile, in Indore, a mentally challenged woman was sexually assaulted by a daily wage laborer. CCTV footage showed the woman roaming half-naked and covered in blood in the city's Sadar Bazar area at around 3.45 am on Tuesday. The police promptly examined the footage and found that she had been harassed by the laborer just a few hours earlier. The accused has been identified as Sonu. Police said Sonu has confessed to the rape.
Congress targets the government.
After the Indore rape incident, state Congress chief Jitu Patwari attacked the ruling BJP. He said, 'The daughter is naked on the road (while) the Chief Minister is busy in a program.' He also took a dig at the 'Laadli Behna Yojana'. This scheme is a women's welfare initiative started by predecessor Shivraj Chauhan, which was credited with helping the BJP win the assembly elections last year.
Comparison with the disrobing of Draupadi
Patwari compared the attack on the Indore woman to the disrobing of Draupadi in the Mahabharata and asked, "Can't the chief minister, who considers himself a 'god', see the disrobing of Draupadi? I am angry and worried about the plight of my daughters. Crimes against our daughters are not stopping, but the chief minister is sitting with his eyes closed."
'The culprits will not be spared'
Responding to the allegations, Minister of State Narendra Shivaji Patel said that the accused in the Indore case has been arrested. He said that the accused would be taught a lesson within the ambit of the law. They will not be spared.
