Gaza: The citizens of Gaza are living in extreme conditions after the brutal aerial bombardment by Israel. In the meantime, Israel has made yet another major declaration. Israel claims to have cut off the flow of power to Gaza. If there is no electricity supplied to Gaza, things will be much worse than they already are. Israel’s announcement has come at a time when barely a week ago, it had cut off the supply of all sorts of aid to over 2.5 million people living in Gaza.

What did the claims of the Israeli Energy Minister state?

As Israel’s Energy Minister Cohen claimed, the Israeli Electricity Corporation would no longer receive electricity to the region. Cohen announced that I have executed a decision to cut off electric light to the Gaza Strip. We will utilize every resource at our disposal in order to achieve the freeing of the captives and the destruction of Hamas in Gaza.

Gaza has been destroyed

Many think this Israeli decision is an effort to put more pressure on Hamas. The first part that involved the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came to a close last week. Hamas has maintained the position that talks should be initiated over the more contentious second half of the ceasefire. The electricity supply is generated through the use of generators and solar panels in Gaza which has been devastated greatly due to the war.

What is Egypt's plan regarding Gaaz

On the other hand, it is important to note here that, unlike US president Donald Trump’s suggestion for idle inhabitants to be evacuated from Gaza for development purposes, Egypt’s vision entails re-constructing Gaza with Palestinians allowed to remain within the Gaza strip. Egypt's proposal entails creating a barrier free zone within Gaza that Palestinians can settle in temporarily while international construction companies and Egypt clear the debris from the Gaza Strip so that new structures can be put in place.
