Jerusalem: Israel's defense minister said the army has been instructed to prepare plans for mass exodus of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip according to the proposal made by President Donald Trump for that war torn territory. Defense Minister Israel Katz said the plan “will include options for exit at land crossings as well as special arrangements for exit by sea and air”.
It is reported that he did not forget to thank Trump for his “convincing scheme which enables a massive populace from Gaza to escape to different parts of the globe.” He is silent on whether it would be permissible for Palestinians to return in the future which is highly unlikely thanks to Israel’s 15 month military humanitarian campaign against Hamas.
On Wednesday Trump proclaimed that the majority of the population in Gaza should be “permanently” moved else where so that the United States can focus on rebuilding the region. Later on some officials stated that the relocation would be temporary, but the fear among the Palestinians is that Israel will never allow them to return, which will worsen the refugee crisis that has existed since the founding of the state.
The plan offered by Trump received firm opposition from the Palestinian side and a large part of the international community. Many rights groups claimed it would lead to forcible displacement which is prohibited by international law.
