As the conflict in Gaza continues, the Israeli army has expanded its operations, carrying out an airstrike in southern Beirut late Monday night. According to the military, the strike targeted a Hezbollah operative, and was executed without prior warning.
This marks the second airstrike on Beirut in recent days, following a previous attack on Friday, raising alarm over escalating tensions between Israel and Lebanon.
Attack Signals End of Ceasefire with Hezbollah
The strike comes after a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah, signed on 27 November 2024, had largely held. The Israeli army stated the operation was conducted under the guidance of Shin Bet, Israel’s domestic intelligence agency.
The army also reiterated that Hezbollah has been supporting Hamas in its conflict with Israel, providing material and strategic aid.
Hezbollah Silent; No Casualty Report Yet
As of now, Hezbollah has not issued a statement regarding the attack. There are no confirmed reports of casualties. Visuals shared across social media show severe damage to the upper floors of a building in southern Beirut, with cars crushed by debris on the street below.
