Iran Hijab Protest: A video of a unique protest by a student at an Iranian university is going viral on social media. In the video, the Iranian student was seen roaming around taking off her clothes in protest against her university's strict dress code.
According to online videos and media reports, a young woman at an Iranian university on Saturday stripped down to her underwear in protest against the country's strict Islamic dress code, particularly the hijab. A video posted on social media showed security guards at a branch of the Islamic Azad University detaining an unidentified woman.
Internet users criticized Iran.
University spokesman Amir Mahjab said on X that the girl had been taken to the police station. Where it was found that she was under severe mental pressure. However, some social media users said that the woman had deliberately protested against the dress code. Some other users also said that the dress code for women in Iran is very strict and eventually protests have also started against it.
The girl has a serious mental problem!
Lei La, a user on X, commented on the video, "For most women, being in underwear in a public place is one of their worst nightmares. This is done against the rule of wearing hijab."
The woman's condition was not known, but the mass-circulation daily Hamshahri said on its website: "An informed source said the girl has a serious mental problem and, after examination, she will be sent to a mental hospital."
There was a big protest in 2022
Earlier in September 2022, a growing number of women have defied authorities by discarding their hijabs following nationwide protests following the death of a young Iranian Kurdish woman in the custody of morality police for allegedly violating hijab rules. Security forces violently suppressed the uprising.
