New Delhi: The Indian Railway's Research Design and Standards Organisation has developed the world's first indigenously powered hydrogen train and is undergoing plans for transforming India into one of the leading countries engaging in powered hydrogen trains. Indian Railways has already begun the sophisticated project with the goal of fabricating the world's longest powered hydrogen train,” said Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Vaishnaw further added that “The new hydrogen fueled train will be a complete innovation replica where in the diesel-electric units of the hydrogen powered engine will be retrofitted. For further endeavors, the Indian Railways plans on using a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Dynamo Electric Multiple Unit.”
During his address to the Rajya Sabha, he further included, “Currently, the plans are set up on fabricating the most advanced powered hydrogen train along with the option for incorporating additional features later on.”
“Along with the train, concomitant on-ground infrastructure to refill hydrogen is envisioned with an integrated hydrogen production-storage-dispensation facility. The structure is yet to be finalized incorporating the required safety provisions from the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization for the layout of the facility which is already approved,” said Vaishnaw.
“The project enhances Indian Railways standing on their endeavor in the alternative energy powered train travel sector, thus contributing to the enhancement of the cleaner and greener initiatives in the transportation industry of the country,” he added.
