Amritsar: More than 200 Indian nationals who have been deported from USA by a US military transport aircraft will be arriving in this city today. The C-17 Globemaster that took off from San Antonio, Texas, carried 205 Indian nationals who were aliens in the United States.

This is the first deportation move to India that was executed during Trump’s regime that was the big crackdown on immigrants in the second term at the White House. A large number of deportees comprising some 205 are from Punjab and had come to USA through ‘donkey routes’ or otherwise by spending lakhs of rupees.

Refusing to comment on the deportation flight involving Indians, a spokeswoman for the US embassy in New Delhi said on Tuesday: “The US is now strengthening immigration laws and repatriating immigrants in violation of the law.” The US decision has come at a time when India and the US are ironing out various parameters of a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Washington where he is expected to be in February 12 to 13.

So far, there has been no response from the Indian government regarding this step of the US.

At the same time, the Nonadians paid their gallons through ticket price chance to America Pakistant, the North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) on Wednesday demand the Punjab government to establish a rehabilitation fund for those being deported from the United States.

The Executive Director of NAPA Satnam Singh Chahal based on the statement said that lack of care andMISSINGasis for these persons create social and economic problems to the state of Punjab.

He said that the Punjab government must not ignore this emerging issue as it will make the condition worse in the state, which will lead to unemployment, mental health disorders and other criminal activities.

Most of these young people leave their homes with hopes of a better future only to be deported because of immigration problems. They come back broken hearted, penniless and stressed with psychological complications. Offering sanctum and safety for the victims and the successful execution in their prosecution, it is said that it is the government’s role to facilitate and oversee their proper reformation and reentry into society, Chahal added.

He appealed for resources sensitive amounts to be set aside for qualitative skills and training, employment, and counselling for psychological rehabilitation of these people. He further urged the relevant policymakers in implementing institutions and organisations to come up and work with NAPA and other institutions to formulate holistic intervention measures and solutions that would efficiently tackle the problem.

“It is not an issue for a single person but the entire society” Chahal stated. “If no action is taken now, the years to come trouble and uprising starts for the youth not only in Punjab but social life and economy” he added. (Agency inputs)
