Following the passing away of Indian origin youngster Binil T.angle in the Welsh Ukraine conflict, India has increased the request for the lift of all Indian nationals that have been conscripted by the Russian Defense Forces, reaching the overall tally - currently - of 10 India nationals remaining in conflict zones.
This was emphasized by the specialist of the Ministry of External Affairs Randhir Jaiswal on Tuesday claiming that another Indian Binil hailing from the state of Kerala, Thrissur region is reported to have been killed at the front and also informed that one more injured Indian from Kerala is in the care of a hospital in Moscow.
Moreover, that followed another statement Jaiswal made – “It was tragic to note the demise of Kerala Indian, who was soldiering under the Russian army.” Adding the statement with an explanation of an additional Kerala Indian who served under Russian army, “Was also wounded and has been hospitalized in Moscow.”
As for the Indian government's comments, Jaiswal said: "We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the dead, our embassy in Moscow is in touch with the families and all possible assistance is being extended.
He also added that work was actively proceeding for the early repatriation of Binil’s body to India.
The MEA has taken up the issue aggressively with the Russian authorities both in Moscow and the Russian Embassy in India New Delhi. “We have also sought the immediate discharge and repatriation to India of the injured person,” Jaiswal said.
India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi spoke of such issues as the premature discharge of Indians serving in the Russian Army during discussions with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow in July last year.
Indians Recruited By Ukraine Undertaking Russia War
As per the news agency PTI reports, it is shown the government figures that in the last few months, nine Indian nationals lost their lives in such incidents and Binil remains the 10th individual.
An Indian electrician from Thrissur, Binil TB, along with his cousin Jain T K, an ITI mechanical diploma holder, went to Russia on April 4 for a dream of earning as an electrician and plumber.
As reiterated by PTI, instead of pursuing their careers of choice, they were hurled into the warzone where they served in the Russian Military Support Services – the only way their relatives could account for their sudden careers switch. But that was not how things were supposed to go. They were supposed to be sent to India. Instead they were detained in Russia and their Indian passports were taken away.
In a conflict driven region of Ukraine, Binil and Jain were able to make the worst of an already dire circumstance. Their mobile phones and other valuables were left lost. In order to guarantee their return they determined and got in touch with administration in a hope to make something of their situation.
A relative of their’s, who happened to be serving in the military, facilitated Binil and Jain with private visas to Russia. However, these workers were no longer a part of the Russian army. Earlier this year, because of pressure from the Indian government, Moscow decided to discharge many Indian nationals.
Jain’s relatives reported that he sustained some injuries and is under treatment in Moscow. Binal on the other hand had informed their family about being given duties in the front lines of the war torn area.
As Indian officials reported in October 2023, there were a total of 85 Indian nationals who were released from Russian military service and work was done to release 20 more. The Russian embassy in New Delhi announced that in August 2024 both India and Russia coworkers in the search for the Indians who contracted them and those who want to return to India.
In the month of April in the year 2023, the Russian Ministry of Defence stopped accepting applications of Indian nationals and a few other foreign nationals to join the military services.
