After security personnel fired tear gas shells on farmers on the Haryana border, the matter of agitation has now reached the Supreme Court. In the petition filed by the farmers, the Annadaatas have demanded the opening of all other borders including the Shambhu border. Gaurav Luthra, a resident of Punjab, filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding the opening of the border.
Supreme Court may hear the case tomorrow.
The petition said that the Supreme Court should order the Central Government, Punjab government, t and Haryana Government to open the borders of all the states. Gaurav Luthra said, closing the border is a violation of fundamental rights. Therefore, we are demanding the opening of the borders of all the states. It is expected that the Supreme Court may hear this petition on Monday (9 December).
Farmers' protest postponed for a d.ay
Earlier on Sunday afternoon, farmers suspended their march towards Delhi. Punjab farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said that 8 farmers were injured when security personnel fired tear gas shells. One of them was taken to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh.
Speaking to the media, he said, we have called back the group (group of 101 farmers). Pandher said that the farmers will decide their next course of action after a meeting of their forums - Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.
Why are the farmers protesting?
Let us tell you that after the attempt the of 'Delhi March' on Friday, a group of 101 farmers again tried to march to Delhi on Sunday. But, tear gas shells were fired at the farmers by the security personnel. The farmers have demanded a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for crops as well as justice for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence. Apart from this, they are demanding compensation to the families of farmers killed during previous protests in 2020-21.
