Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan himself has revealed that he was suffering from dyslexia in his childhood. He had difficulty in identifying letters and speaking correctly. Due to this, his performance in studies was also weak. However, by getting treatment at the right time, he left this problem behind and achieved success in his life. Let us know about this disease from Dr. Aditya Gupta (Director - Neurosurgery and Cyberknife, Artemis Hospital Gurugram).

Dr. Aditya Gupta said that dyslexia is a neurological disease in which a person has difficulty in reading, writing and recognizing words. This problem starts in childhood and if not treated at the right time, it can become a lifelong problem.

symptoms-

  • Difficulty reading and writing: trouble recognising letters and forming words correctly
  • Slow learning: The speed of studying is less as compared to other children
  • Speech problems: difficulty pronouncing words correctly and putting together sentences
  • Difficulty concentrating: unable to focus on one task for long

Prevention and treatment –

It is not possible to completely cure dyslexia, but it can be controlled with the right treatment and support

  • Special education programs: Special education techniques for children, using play and visual methods
  • Speech therapy: This therapy is given to overcome speech problems
  • Parental support: The support and understanding of parents gives confidence to the child
  • Use of technology: Audio books, speech-to-text apps, etc. are helpful
  • Professional counseling: Talking to a counselor helps the child solve emotional problems

There is no proper treatment for dyslexia as it is a neurological problem, but early identification and timely treatment can make a child's life easier. If your child shows persistent difficulty in reading and writing, then definitely consult a doctor.
