Delhi Assembly Election 2025: Congress has released the first list of its candidates for the upcoming assembly elections 2025 in Delhi. Before Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had announced the names of its candidates, after which the list of other political parties was awaited. Meanwhile, Congress has announced the names of its 21 candidates for the assembly elections. The list also includes the name of Sandeep Dixit, son of late former Chief Minister of Delhi Sheel Dixit, whom Congress has fielded on the current seat of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal. It is expected that Arvind Kejriwal and Sandeep Dixit may face each other in the elections.

Sandeep Dixit will contest from mother Sheila's seat

Congress has fielded former Lok Sabha MP Sandeep Dixit from New Delhi constituency for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav will contest from Badli seat. While Congress spokesperson Ragini Nayak will contest from Wazirpur. The first list of candidates also includes party national secretary Abhishek Dutt from Kasturba Nagar, former minister Haroon Yusuf from Ballimaran, former DPCC president Chaudhary Anil Kumar from Patparganj. Sandeep Dixit will contest from the seat which was once represented by his mother Sheila Dixit. In the 2013 assembly elections, Sheila Dixit was defeated by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

From where will Arvind Kejriwal contest the elections?

Arvind Kejriwal won the seat again in 2015 and then in the 2020 elections. Although the AAP has not yet announced the name of any candidate for the New Delhi seat, it is expected that Arvind Kejriwal will contest from this seat as always. Congress fought the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Delhi in alliance with ally AAP. However, both the parties are contesting alone in the capital. Arvind Kejriwal had posted on Twitter, 'Aam Aadmi Party will fight this election in Delhi on its own. There is no possibility of alliance with Congress.' The oldest party Congress, which ruled Delhi from 1998 to 2013, failed to win a single seat in the last two elections.
