New Delhi: On Saturday, BJP candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa won decisively over A Dhanwati Chandela A from Aam Aadmi Party, with a total of 64132 votes, thus securing the Rajouri Garden assembly seat by a margin of 18,190 votes.

Sirsa achieved 64132 votes which translates into 55.86 percent of the total votes cast of 114806. AAP’s Chandela A received 45942 votes while Congress Dharam Pal Chandela managed to get a meager 3198 votes.

Chandela A was attempting to get re-elected from the Rajouri Garden Seat, however, Sirsa’s lead sealed the deal and further worsened AAP’s chances in the national capital.

In 2020, the Rajouri Garden legislative assembly constituency’s total electors was 1,80,248. Valid votes totaled to 1,10,994. AAP candidate Chandela A was the victor and became MLA after winning with a total of 62212 votes.

BJP candidate Ramesh Khanna came in second with a total of 39240 votes and lost by 22972 votes. In the 2015 elections, AAP candidate Jarnail Singh captured the seat and secured 54916 votes. Next, S. Akali Dal candidate M. S. Sirsa got 44880 votes. He came second and lost by 10036 votes.

BJP Set For Historic Victory

With counting still underway, the BJP is well in the lead having captured at least 47 of the 70 parliamentary seats. At the second place is AAP with 23 seats. The BJP is poised to retake the national capital after a gap of 27 years.

Counting for the assembly polls in Delhi started at 8 am. According to the latest counts, Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal is losing against BJP’s Parvesh Verma in the contested New Delhi seat. In the Kalkaji seat, Chief Minister Atishi Khurana has claimed the victory against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri.

Along with the initial projections, these results will further assist many to discover the extent and the ramifications of AAP’s political monopoly in Delhi as of today --- especially the degree to which the BJP has straken the AAP stronghold. It was a 12 year term that Congress ruled Delhi with two stints of AAP since 2014, the first of which ended in 2020.
