Former President Pranab Mukherjee's daughter Sharmishtha Mukherjee has reacted to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's demand for a memorial for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Sharmishtha Mukherjee has said that when Baba died, the Congress did not even bother to call the CWC for a condolence meeting.

Sharmishtha Mukherjee expressed her displeasure through a post on social media. She wrote, "When Baba died, the Congress did not even bother to call the CWC for a condolence meeting. A senior leader told me that this is not done for presidents. This is absolutely nonsense because, I later came to know from Baba's diary that on the death of KR Narayanan, the CWC was called and the condolence message was prepared by Baba himself."

Sharmishtha Mukherjee gave this reaction while sharing a post of former Congress leader CR Kesavan. CR Kesavan has written in his post, "It is indeed ironic that the Congress President is writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about traditions and making the cremation ground a sacred place for the memorial. Kharge ji should be reminded that the Congress-led UPA government never built a memorial in Delhi for former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao ji, who died in 2004."

CR Kesavan further wrote, “Congress never built a memorial for him in the 10 years it was in power from 2004-2014. It was only Prime Minister Modi who established a memorial for Narasimha Rao in 2015 and conferred Bharat Ratna on him posthumously in 2024. Manmohan ji's media advisor Sanjay Baru claimed in his book that Congress did not want Rao's funeral to be held in Delhi but in Hyderabad and Rao's children were contacted to convey this. The cremation took place in Hyderabad, while Rao's body was not kept at the All India Congress Committee headquarters. Our nation will neither forget nor forgive the historical sins of the unprincipled Congress.”

Let us tell you that the central government will build a memorial of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi. The Union Home Ministry has said that the government will allocate space for this. In this regard, the family of late Manmohan Singh and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge have been informed. Earlier, Congress Party National President Mallikarjun Kharge had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a memorial on the banks of Yamuna River in Delhi in honor of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
