Congress on PM Modi Ukraine Visit: PM Modi will leave for a visit to Poland and Ukraine on Wednesday. This visit of PM Modi is being considered very important amidst the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor has also praised this decision. He said on Tuesday that the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Ukraine is a good sign and will be appreciated.
After staying in Poland from 21-22 August, PM Modi will visit the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on 23 August to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Tharoor said that it is a good thing that India is showing some degree of concern towards both the warring countries Russia and Ukraine.
What did MP Shashi Tharoor say?
Former Minister of State for External Affairs Tharoor said, 'Many people believe that India is in a neutral role in most of the conflicts in the world today. It would be good for both sides to show some degree of concern, as he (Modi) did in Moscow. Now going to that country and greeting President Zelensky would be a very good gesture.'
'Prime Minister's visit to Ukraine is a good sign'
However, he said that any role of India in establishing peace can be played only at the request of the warring countries. Tharoor said that the Prime Minister's visit to Ukraine is a good sign in itself. He said that if something good happens then it will be even better. Tharoor, a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), said, 'But this should not be the only criterion.'
Used to criticize India’s stance
Tharoor said that when the war started, he was very critical of India's stance because it (India) refused to condemn the violation of sovereign borders and the defiance of the UN Charter. Tharoor said that when India also adopted a helping stance with Ukraine, he had to change his stance.
