Beijing: The Ministry of Commerce of People’s Republic of China on Tuesday declared that China is imposing counter-tariffs on several products that are imported from the USA and introduced an inquiry of Google.
It will also impose 15 percent duty on coal, and limpidified natural gas products, 10% duty on crude oil, large displacement cars and agricultural machinery.
The statement further explained that “The US’s decision to increase the tariffs is contrary to the rules of the WTO and this move was unilateral”. The State news agency also stated that it is not only unproductive in addressing its internal issues, but also harms the distinctive financial and trade relations between China and the US.
Mr Trump having threatened to impose a 10 per cent tariff on China was to be effected on Tuesday but he intended to speak to President Xi of China soon.
China’s State Administration for Market Regulation has opened an antitrust investigation targeting Google stating that the company is a potential violator of the law. Although it did not mention any tariffs, it made the announcement immediately after the 10% tariffs announced by Trump.
