Breastfeeding During Fever: Breastfeeding is very important for the health of the child because it provides the child with all the necessary nutrients and also improves his immune system, but if the mother has a fever or is suffering from diseases like dengue, malaria, then the question arises whether she can breastfeed her child? In such a situation, today we will know the answer to this question from Dr. Aastha Dayal (Director - Obstetrics and Gynecology, CK Birla Hospital Gurugram).

Dr. Aastha said that if the mother has only a normal fever, then she should not stop breastfeeding her child. During breastfeeding, the child gets some antibodies from the mother's body, which help him fight diseases. The virus or bacteria of fever does not reach the child through breast milk, so breastfeeding is safe. However, if the fever is due to any serious infection, then definitely consult a doctor.

Can breastfeeding be done in dengue?

Dengue is a disease that spreads through mosquito bites. The mother should continue to breastfeed even during dengue because breast milk does not contain the dengue virus. Also, breastfeeding increases the immunity of the baby, which helps protect him from diseases. During dengue, the mother should take care of herself, such as drinking as much water as possible and resting, so that her health can improve faster.

Malaria is a disease spread by a parasite, which is caused by the bite of an infected mosquito. A mother can breastfeed her child even during malaria. The malaria parasite does not spread through breast milk, so the mother does not need to stop breastfeeding.

However, if malaria medication is being taken, a doctor should be consulted to ensure that the medication does not affect the baby. During fever, dengue, and malaria, the mother should continue breastfeeding as it does not harm the baby, rather it strengthens his immune system.
