Bengaluru – According to the police, on Thursday morning two workers perished in a blaze that erupted in an under construction building within the precincts of Madanayakanahalli police jurisdiction, and were subsequently unable to exit the premises.

The deceased were identified as Uday and Roshan both of whom were natives of Bihar and were working as a carpenter and a painter respectively. Satish, a resident of Mandya, was building a three storey structure on the Shivani Greens Layout in Seegehalli, police stated.

The structure was nearing the final stages with only the painting and woodwork remaining. As is routine, roughly six workers had reported for work this morning. The fire erupted at around this time. Firefighters who received the tip-off at the center were able to bring the fire under control once they arrived with the three fire engines. One worker who was trapped in the building was freed by the firefighters, but to the police’s dismay, upon their arrival the bodies of the two workers were uncovered.

Cylinder did not explode: A senior fire department officer, Kishore, revealed, “After putting out the fire, we were told that there was a fire tragedy around 11.10 am today. Additional vehicles from Rajajinagar and Peenya fire stations helped us put out the fire completely. A labourer trapped inside the building was rescued during the operation. While entering the premises, there were two bodies found in the second and third floor rooms.”

Kishore further added, “The workers at the site were able to show us a small cooking cylinder which did not explode.”
