Baby in coffin grabs hand: A newborn baby girl was immediately rushed to the hospital when her body was seen moving at her own funeral. The baby lying in the coffin grabbed the fingers of a mourner nearby. Doctors declared 8-month-old Kiara dead on October 19.
Two hours later, his body was sent from the Faustino Riscaroli Hospital Foundation in Correia Pinto, Santa Catarina, Brazil, to funeral director Aureo Arruda Ramos, reports the Mirror.
Preparation for the funeral
Ramos, along with Kiara's parents, began making arrangements for the little girl's funeral, which was scheduled to take place later that day according to local media reports. Her parents brought a set of clothes for the child to wear into the coffin. The funeral was scheduled for 7 p.m., just 16 hours after Kiara was pronounced dead.
Girl holds finger
Media reports suggest that when one of the mourners touched the child's fingers, the child held him tightly. A pharmacist present there found that she was still breathing and immediately called the emergency services.
The girl was alive till then.
Upon examination, paramedics found that Kiara's pulse was still running and her oxygen saturation level was 84%, indicating an immediate need for critical care. They also found no signs of rigor mortis, which usually occurs between six to eight hours after death. However, according to local news reports, young Kiara was once again declared dead when she was taken back to the hospital.
"We were already devastated. Then there was a little hope, but then this happened," said grieving father Cristiano Santos. Authorities have apologized to Kiara's family and promised a thorough investigation, with a report expected in 30 days.
