The Indian government has taken "seriously" the threat made by Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu to India's Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra. The issue has been raised with officials in Washington, the foreign ministry said on Friday.
Recently, in a video, Pannu threatened that Quatra is on the radar of pro-Khalistan Sikhs in the US. The Khalistani separatist claimed that Quatra is allegedly in touch with Russian officials who are providing inputs to Indian intelligence agencies on Khalistani networks in the United States.
When threats are made, we take them seriously
"Whenever such threats are made, we take them very seriously and raise them with the US government. In this particular case too, we have raised it with the US government and we hope that the United States government will take our security concerns seriously and act on it," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said during a weekly media briefing in New Delhi on Friday.
Hindus are being targeted in America
Let us tell you that former Foreign Secretary Quatra took over as India's Ambassador to the United States in August this year, replacing Taranjit Singh Sandhu. Quatra's appointment comes at a time when Khalistani separatists are targeting the Hindu community, Hindu religious places and the Indian Embassy in America.
Khalistanis have been involved in incidents of damaging temples in California and New York and other places. They also carried out incidents of arson and vandalism at the Indian Embassy in San Francisco.
Failure to arrest the culprits of the attack
Several lawmakers, including Thanedar, a Democrat elected to the House of Representatives from the state of Michigan, expressed concern over the 'significant increase' in attacks on Hindus and their places of worship in the United States. Thanedar had recently expressed disappointment with the investigating agency for failing to catch the culprits behind the incidents in temples and the consulate.
He said it appears that the attempt to attack these places of worship is very organized, which has created a lot of fear in the community. Often we have seen that law enforcement, local law enforcement agencies get involved in these investigations, but rarely is a suspect identified, and these investigations lead nowhere.
The central government also reprimanded Canada
Further, the central government said that Canada has not presented "any evidence" to support the "serious allegations" made by it. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said, "In addition, its (Canada's) public statement on the issue appears to promote an anti-India separatist agenda."
He said, persisting with such discussions can only be detrimental for any stable bilateral relationship. Therefore, the government has repeatedly urged the Canadian authorities to take action against anti-India elements active on their soil.
