New Delhi. After Australia, now in India too, plans are being made to curb the activities of children below 18 years of age on social media platforms. The government may soon bring a new law to stop the activities of children below 18 years of age on social media. The central government has prepared a draft of the rules under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP), 2023 and released the draft on Friday (January 3).

According to this draft, now children below the age of 18 years will have to take permission from their parents to open an account on social media. Let us tell you that the most common argument given regarding children's use of social media is that it is having a bad effect on children. They are watching such content which is affecting their mental health.

'Social media is affecting children's health'

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 10% of children around the world are negatively affected by the use of social media. The WHO report also shows that as the use of social media is increasing globally, mental and physical problems in children are also increasing.

In this draft it is said that if someone is claiming himself to be the mother or father of a child, then does he have any legal basis or not. The government has also sought suggestions from the people in this regard.

The public can give their opinion regarding the draft

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said in a notification issued on Friday that people can go to My Government.in and register their objections to this draft and can also give suggestions in this regard. However, the objections and suggestions of the people related to this draft will be considered only from February 18.
Recently, the Australian government also decided to ban children below 16 years of age from using social media. This step of the central government is being considered very important for the online safety of children below 18 years of age.
