A man in eastern China's Jiangsu province has been charged with running a large-scale operation to commit fraudulent live streams. The suspect, identified as Ma, was found using more than 400 mobile phones simultaneously from a garage in a house in August this year, The Star reported.
The elderly man informed the police
An elderly passerby first noticed this unusual activity with so many mobiles. He suspected it to be a fraud operation network and reported it to the police. The authorities investigated, who found that Ma was managing hundreds of devices connected to different live-streaming platform accounts.
Ma said he used the phone to access live streams that hosted “lucky bags.” They offered prizes to members who clicked a button and sent a specific message.
Won thousands of prizes
Ma admitted to winning various items using the system, ranging from everyday necessities to high-value products like printers and iPhones. He then sold these goods online. In this way, he claimed to earn lakhs of rupees a month. Ma used the personal information of others to buy SIMs for these mobile phones. The police accused him of violating personal information, which is a violation of Chinese law.
