
Jaiaram, also referred to as Chalpathy, a Maoist fugitive with a billion-dollar bounty, was one of the 14 people gunned down in Tuesday's skirmish with the Gariatan security troops based in the Gariaband area of Chhattisgarh.
According to the police officers, the fighting is still in action.
Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister remarked that, ‘Naxalism is brathing its last today.’
Shah highlighted on X, saying, ''Yet another powerful blow to Naxalism. Our security forces made significant strides toward a Naxal-free Bharat. 14 Naxals were neutralised during an operation conducted jointly by the CRPF, SoG Odisha and Chhattisgarh Police. Naxalism is breathing its last today and with that we reestablish our commitment towards a Naxal free nation.''
The operation was launched based on reports that Maoists were hiding in Kularighat Reserve Forest in Chhattisgarh, which is only about 5kms away from the border of Nuapada district of Odisha.
