Judge Anirban Das received a statement at the high profile Sealdah court, where he stated, "We do not want remuneration, we seek action." The grieving parents of the 34-year-old have denied the judge’s offer and qualifications stating that this is a matter which lies beyond just compensation.
The judge added, “the crime did not qualify as the ‘rarest of rare’ to warrant the death penalty,” which is the reason the defendant Sanjay Roy is going to be imprisoned for life. The amount given was to be relieved partially by the shocking events narrating a new life that they would have to adopt. The judge emphasized, “it was not meant to replace their loss.”
